Compared to the interest of universities respectively, their academics as well as the interest of business, the motivation of intermediaries lies in the facilitation of the exchange process between the two parties rather than having clear end goals themselves. However, it also needs to be taken into account that the performance of intermediaries is measured by certain indicators so that they are interested in driving these numbers. Indicators include but are not limited to:

  • Number of patents
  • Royalty sales expressed in EURO
  • Number of spin-off companies
  • Number of student start-ups
  • Number of jobs created (internal and external)
  • Number of joint research projects with business
  • Funding from business through joint research projects
