Academics have specific level of values, either set by the institution they work for (Rules of Integrity, Codes of Conduct), or personal values reflection their perception towards academic integrity. Academic integrity can be described (as by the Centre for Academic Integrity, 1999):

  • Honesty
  • Trust
  • Fairness
  • Respect
  • Responsibility

These five core values whether combined or separate and then placed into action resemble what academics look for in exercising their job. In their search for new knowledge it is essential that an academic remains honest, trustworthy, fair, respected and responsible. This also applies to gathering new knowledge, teaching and providing services (e.g. to the community, government or business).
