While it is still not a natural part of many academic institutions to work with business, the institutions see many benefits from business engagement. Appendix 2 (taken from Davey, 2015) highlights these benefits and can be used by businesses to convince university managers that collaborations will have a positive impact on their institution.

Key questions:

  1. Do you understand who is responsible for certain activities and decisions within your partner institution (i.e. who makes the final decision about collaborative research contracts)?
  2. Do you understand what the academic institution is looking for and do you know how to use this knowledge to motivate the institution to get engaged?
