While it is still not a natural part of many academic institutions to work with business, the institutions see many benefits from business engagement. Appendix 2 (taken from Davey, 2015) highlights these benefits and can be used by businesses to convince university managers that collaborations will have a positive impact on their institution.
- Do you understand who is responsible for certain activities and decisions within your partner institution (i.e. who makes the final decision about collaborative research contracts)?
- Do you understand what the academic institution is looking for and do you know how to use this knowledge to motivate the institution to get engaged?
